The minimum wage set by the government should be provided! Emphasis on contract workers

Pollachi: Sanitation workers petitioned the Sub-Collector’s office to pay their salaries according to the Minimum Wages Act. There are 260 contract sanitation workers and 43 contract water distributors in the areas under Pollachi municipality. More than 200 contract sanitation workers and drinking water distributors are working in municipalities. According to the Minimum Wage Act of the Tamil Nadu government, employees in municipalities should be paid 606 rupees and in municipalities, 529 rupees. However, in Pollachi Municipality and Municipalities, the salary is Rs 475. The cleaning workers are insisting that they should be paid the minimum wage set by the government. The contract workers, on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Annal Ambedkar Sanitation and Public Employees Union, filed a petition in the Sub-Collector’s office yesterday. It has been stated in the petition that: Salaries should be paid to the cleaning workers as per the Tamil Nadu Government’s Minimum Wage Fixation Act. Madras High Court has also ordered to increase the salary of cleaning workers. Coimbatore District Collector has ordered to pay 606 rupees to contract cleaning workers. But till now the salary has not been increased. Therefore, steps should be taken to increase the salary by recommending to the higher officials. Thus, it has been reported. The union members said, ‘In Valparai municipality, Samatwar, Suleswaranpatti municipalities, salaries are given according to the government’s Minimum Wage Fixation Act. In Valparai, 606 rupees; 529 rupees are also given in Samathur, Suleswaranpatti. In other municipalities, Pollachi municipality has not yet increased the salary. Despite repeated requests, no action was taken. The next steps will be discussed and action will be taken,’ they said.
