Since 2012, the northern mining basin has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a “cultural landscape” outstanding. A colossal recognition for this site hoisted in the same way as Mont Perdu in the Pyrenees or the Medici villas in Tuscany.

To celebrate the tenth anniversary of this nomination, a participatory and dancing film entitled Move your pelvis is being filmed. The goal, to produce content representative of all facets of this territory with its inhabitants. We also wanted it to be festive, for people to get together and we decided to trample on all these playgrounds.”, explains Gilles Briand, organizer of the event.

In March and April, the Ballet du Nord created choreographies in collaboration with the citizens of several towns in the basin. Until July 10volunteers can come and learn them and dance them in front of the cameras during the seven shooting dates open to the public. It’s really an encounter with dance, at the beginning, I didn’t necessarily have a hook with this practice but there it was obvious”, testifies Gilles Louchartresident ofAnnay-sous-Lens and participant in one of the workshops.

The appointments are fixed at emblematic places in the North such as the City of Electricians, symbol of the mining past, the beach of Rieulay located at the foot of a slag heap or even the old pit tile 9-9 bis. Volunteers will also be able to participate in public shows organized on July 2 near Valenciennes. No prerequisites are necessary to enter the dance, except registration on the event site.
