The gigantic and ambitious Mount Simandou mining project continues to reach crucial milestones, marking significant progress towards the exploitation of the largest untapped high-grade iron deposit in the world.

Under the enlightened presidency of the Minister Chief of Staff of the Presidency, Djiba Diakité, also president of the Simandou strategic committee, at least 8 contractual documents were signed this Friday, December 22, 2023. This action, led by the strong leadership of Minister Djiba Diakité , makes the Co-development of the Simandou project irreversible.

These agreements, concluded a year after the signing of the terms sheets with Rio Tinto Simfer, Winning Consortium Simandou, and the arrival of Baowu, Chinese steel giant, demonstrate the desire to materialize this ambitious project. The Minister Director of the Presidency’s Office reaffirmed his commitment to carrying out the Simandou project, aligned with the vision of the President of the Republic, Colonel Mamadi DOUMBOUYA, and in the interest of the partners involved as well as the sovereign people of Guinea.

Before signing these documents, Bouna Sylla, chairman of the board of directors of the TransGuinéen company, presented the technical advances made by all parties, emphasizing the importance of the collective efforts carried out up to this stage.

Representatives of Rio Tinto, the Winning Consortium Simandou and Baowu, for their part, expressed their solidarity with the Guinean people following the recent tragedy that devastated the country.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to working together to make this project a major success.

The ministers of economy and finance, budget, mines, as well as the governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Guinea, welcomed the signed agreements and praised the continued commitment of the partners to make the Simandou project a reality.

This historic milestone marks a major step forward towards the exploitation of this world-class deposit, paving the way for strengthened collaboration between partners for the economic development of the nation.

The determination of the State thanks to the leadership of HE Colonel MD and the sustained commitment of the partners involved, the Simandou project has reached a point of no return. This new signing of agreements which comes in the midst of a crisis due to the explosion of the main hydrocarbon depot in Kaloum testifies to this clear and unwavering desire to move forward and reassure. The Simandou project is thus positioned as a symbol of hope and perseverance, carried by leadership committed to charting a more promising future for the sovereign people of Guinea.
