the Minister of Health asks the French “to put the mask back on transport”

After more than two years punctuated by the Covid-19 pandemic, France plunged again at the start of the summer, like other European countries, into a new wave, carried by new sub-variants of the Omicron family, BA .4 and especially BA.5. Contaminations have been increasing for three weeks in all metropolitan areas and all age groups and are now reaching around 55,000 every day.

The Minister of Health, Brigitte Bourguignon, asked on Monday June 27 on RTL“to the French to put the mask back on transport”but also in “all closed places with high promiscuity” by civility. “You only have to see a crowded station hall or train to know that first you have to protect yourself and protect others”, she asserted.

In recent days, several voices, including that, in a personal capacity, of the government’s “Mister vaccine”, Alain Fischer, have pleaded for a return of the mask in public transport. The lifting of its obligation dates back to May 16.

Brigitte Bourguignon also reiterated her call for a new vaccination booster with the fourth dose for certain categories of the population, such as the over 60s and immunocompromised people.

Faced with this resumption of the epidemic, the Prime Minister, Élisabeth Borne, brings together this Tuesday, June 28 the prefects and directors of Regional Health Agencies by videoconference. The meeting, which will begin at 3 p.m., will make it possible to issue a series of recommendations for the coming weeks.

A bill aimed at temporarily maintaining a monitoring and health security system in the fight against the virus must also be presented to Parliament in July.
