The government multiplies the recommendations, without going so far as to pronounce an obligation. The Minister of Health, Brigitte Bourguignon, asked the French, Monday June 27, “to put the mask back on transport” by civility.

“I don’t just recommend it, I demand it”she insisted, due to a “obvious recovery” infections in France. Asked about RTL, the minister mentioned the “civic duty”consists in “Protect yourself against a highly transmissible variant”but also to “protect others, especially the most vulnerable” in confined places.

The Minister thus referred more broadly to all “enclosed places where we are in very direct promiscuity”including at work or in shops.

Appeal to the population eligible for the fourth dose of vaccine

France, like the European countries, is faced with an upsurge in contamination, in particular due to the BA.5 variant. Last Thursday, M.me Bourguignon had already appealed to the “citizen responsibility” in the face of this new epidemic situation.

All the indicators are on the rise in France. The incidence rate (the number of cases per 100,000 population) increased by 29% from June 14 to 21 compared to the previous week. The positivity rate reached 24.1%. Over the past seven days, the number of hospitalized patients stands at 4,053, up 25.4%.

On Monday, she also reiterated her call for a new vaccination booster for certain categories of the population affected by the fourth dose. “I am calling for people who have not used it to do so very quickly”she insisted, citing the over 60s and immunocompromised people.

Professor Alain Fischer, president of the advisory council for the vaccine strategy, called on these people on Sunday to be administered their second booster vaccination.

Brigitte Bourguignon added that the decision to extend eligibility for a fourth dose to the entire population ” will come[it] most likely “.

Beaten at the polls in the legislative elections, where she ran in the 6th constituency of Pas-de-Calais, Brigitte Bourguignon still holds the post of Minister of Health but must theoretically leave the government during the next reshuffle. Emmanuel Macron had announced that the non-victorious minister-candidates for the deputies would be forced to leave the government.
