The Ministerial Council for Economy discusses unifying vehicle imports between Baghdad and Erbil and supports hybrid and electric vehicles

/ The Ministerial Council for Economy decided, on Monday, to form a committee to review and unify customs duties at border crossings regarding the import of cars in the federal government and the region. It also confirmed support for the import of hybrid and electric vehicles by canceling customs duties and vehicle registration fees.

The Council said in a statement received by Agency, “Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein chaired, today, Monday, the third session of the Ministerial Council for the Economy, in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, the Ministers of Finance, Trade, Agriculture, Industry, Labor and Social Affairs, the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, the Chairman of the Securities Commission, the Prime Minister’s Advisors for Economic and Legal Affairs, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil.

The statement added that “the Council hosted the Minister of Environment, the Undersecretary of the Ministry, and members of the Diwani Order Committee for unifying vehicle import procedures between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, due to the large number of vehicles of all types and their negative impact on environmental pollution, toxic and harmful emissions, and congestion.”

The Council discussed “the controls for importing vehicles of all types and listened to the opinions presented by the Council members, the Minister of Environment, and representatives of the federal government and the regional government. The Council decided to approve the recommendations of the committee with some amendments and to form a committee to review and unify customs duties at all ports and a committee to unify the approved specifications for import and conformity.”

The Council also decided to “support the import of hybrid and electric vehicles by cancelling customs duties and vehicle registration fees.”
