In her speech, the Chinese Ambassador to Burundi, Zhao Jiangping indicated that this food donation is granted to Burundi as part of supporting national education (for boarding schools) and vulnerable people.
The Chinese Ambassador said that this donation is a gesture of friendship, solidarity and commitment from China to support Burundian national education. It is also a contribution to the care of vulnerable people affected by floods and the consequences of climate change, the Ambassador added.
According to Ambassador Zhao Jiangping, China is intervening in Burundi in the fields of agriculture, energy, infrastructure and education. These interventions will continue further to realize the vision of Burundi as an emerging country in 2040 and a developed country in 2060, the Chinese Ambassador to Burundi stressed.
The Minister in charge of national solidarity indicated that this donation is an eloquent sign of the importance that China attaches, not only to cooperation between the Chinese and Burundian peoples, but also to the well-being of Burundians.
The Minister in charge of National Solidarity welcomed this donation which will help a significant number of vulnerable families, internally displaced persons, orphanages, centers for the disabled and the elderly, as well as boarding schools.
Minister Imelde SABUSHIMIKE also welcomed the fact that the Chinese Embassy in Burundi provides food aid each year to the official Orphanage of Bujumbura. She asked the Chinese Ambassador to advocate with his government for this partnership to be extended to other orphanages in Burundi, most of which have difficulty meeting basic needs.
One of the beneficiaries of this donation, Brother NDAYISHIMIYE Barthélemie of the Mutwenzi Pedagogical Institute, said that it is a sigh of relief because this donation comes at the right time.
