As another measure to reduce prices for vegetables, the Ministry of Agriculture proposed to introduce vegetable storage facilities with a capacity of 313,900 tons. “When we harvest 5.5 million tons of vegetables, we have 1.6 million tons of storage. Some vegetables are sold during the season when storage facilities are not needed. , part of it goes for processing, but still a significant part goes to storage. According to our estimates, their deficit is estimated at 1 million tons of vegetables, ”said Mikhail Glushkov, executive director of the National Fruit and Vegetable Union.

Vegetables have become the leaders among basic products in Russia in terms of the rate of rise in prices. According to Rosstat, beets cost 92 rubles in June. per kg after 33 rubles. a year earlier, carrots – 82 rubles. per kg after 40 rubles, potatoes – 58 rubles. per kg after 38 rubles, cabbage – 38 rubles. per kg after 28 rubles. Only onions have fallen in price: by about 1 ruble, up to 37 rubles. per kg.

Earlier, the Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov said that the rise in prices for vegetables and fruits in September is not typical for Russia, but in monthly terms they have risen in price by 1.8%, and in annual terms – by 15.2%. The head of the department noted that since 1998 in September, deflation on vegetables has not been observed only once, in 2010.

Reshetnikov then associated the rise in prices for fruit and vegetable products with a significant lag in the pace of harvesting. “The main reason is the low harvest rates due to the weather. And also a shortage of labor in a number of regions under conditions of quarantine restrictions, ”he said.
