The Minister of Culture of Estonia no longer considers it appropriate to allocate funding for the project to create a cultural quarter on the territory of the Krenholm Manufactory in Narva due to the sharply complicated relations with Russia due to the war in Ukraine, Narva reacted negatively to the opinion of the minister, writes ERR.

Both the minister and the leadership of the Kultuurkapital Foundation had questions about the Narva project for a cultural quarter on the territory of the Krenholm Manufactory. The reason is the severing of cultural ties with Russia due to the war in Ukraine, while initially the project was also focused on attracting visitors from Russia.

“I can’t imagine now a single member of parliament who would come out and say – we don’t support Narva because there is a war in Russia, this simply cannot be, it’s dishonest – Narva should not suffer from the fact that there is a war there,” she said. Mayor of Narva Katri Raik.

The authorities of Narva do not intend to abandon the project, and Raik is going to discuss this issue with the Minister of Culture in September.
