The Ministry of Defense is developing a smartphone for military personnel and their families, as well as mobile applications for everyday use on the territory of military units, TASS reported with reference to the Deputy Head of the Department of Information Systems of the Ministry of Defense, Major General Alexander Osadchuk.

According to him, the phone is being developed on the basis of the Era technopolis. The smartphone will operate in various modes and will help ensure secure communications, Osadchuk added.

The Technopolis is also testing the Quartz project to create a digital ecosystem for the daily activities of the military. “The Passport system is being deployed, which provides a serviceman with access to the data he needs in everyday life,” the Defense Ministry said.

Earlier, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the excessive use of smartphones and other gadgets led to the fact that people began to travel less and live “short and indecent”.

Vedomosti previously reported that Voentelecom, a communications operator controlled by the Ministry of Defense, received a five-year virtual operator license to operate throughout the country.
