The Ministry of Education published today (Tuesday) a call to local authorities to activate the ‘Kindergartens and School for the Great Holiday’, the Ministry of Education’s activity program for the Great Holiday.
The program will operate in kindergartens and grades 1-3 in schools from Sunday July 2nd to Thursday July 20th in a format of 5 days a week, starting at 8:00 a.m. (in kindergartens from 7:30 a.m.) until 1:00 p.m. .
The cost of the framework for parents is according to the socio-economic ranking of the localities in which they live: in low socio-economic ranking localities (0-4) participation is free of charge. In localities with a medium social economic level (5-7) the cost to parents is 300 NIS per student, and in localities with a high socio-economic level (8-10) the cost is 450 NIS per student. The program’s budget is about NIS 419 million.
Last week the Ministry of Finance announced that kindergartens will be included in this year’s program. Minister of education Yoav Kish He thanked Finance Minister Bezalel Smotritz and added: “We have been working towards this in recent months and I am happy that we have found a solution. For me, the children of Israel will always be first.”
Even last year it was not clear whether the kindergarten children would be included in the summer program, and Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman and Education Minister Yifat Shasha Biton managed to find solutions to the issue.
The program in the schools focuses on living together, strengthening language literacy, and exposure to art and culture. The program in the kindergartens focuses on promoting linguistic literacy and cultivating the love of books and the enjoyment of reading.
