Ministry of Education Implements Traffic Light System for Education System During War

14th October 2023, 21:39

The Ministry of Education has released a new mode of operation for the education system during times of war. The system, developed in collaboration with the Home Front Command, is based on a traffic light model that divides authorities into different categories based on their ability to hold physical learning.

According to the new system, authorities marked in red will not be able to hold physical learning. These areas will need to rely on remote learning options until the situation improves. On the other hand, authorities marked in yellow will be able to hold physical learning under certain protection restrictions. Lastly, authorities marked in green will be able to hold classes physically without any major limitations.

The decision on which educational frameworks will operate and which will not be made by the director of the Authority’s education department. Several factors will be considered, including the protection of the buildings and the mental readiness of parents and education staff. This decision aims to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff members in these challenging times.

In addition to the traffic light model, the Ministry of Education also announced the postponement of winter matriculation exams. This decision is made in order to provide students and teachers with a more suitable and stable learning environment during a period of uncertainty and conflict.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Education has made efforts to support students in areas affected by the conflict. They are in the process of assimilating an education coordinator in the centers for evacuees from the settlements surrounding Gaza. The education coordinator’s role will be to oversee and coordinate all educational activities within the centers, providing support and resources to ensure that students can continue their education despite the difficult circumstances.

The Ministry of Education hopes that these measures will help maintain a sense of normalcy and continuity in education, even during times of crisis. By implementing the traffic light system, they aim to create a clear and organized framework for authorities to follow, ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff members throughout the country.
