The Ministry of Environmental Protection will conduct a national exercise for the oil and coastal pollution scenario in oil

by time news

Between February 22-20, 2022, the Ministry of Environmental Protection will hold a full-scale national exercise to deal with the scenario of an oil and beach pollution incident, which allegedly originated in a tanker connected to the Eilat EPA terminal, which also spread to beaches. Vigilant movement of land forces, vessels and aircraft is expected.

The exercise resembled a scenario of a tanker being unloaded at a pier at the Eilat EPA terminal and the flow of oil (oil) into the sea following a failure. As part of the event, a situation room will be opened for the management of the event at the Eilat Marine Pollution Prevention Station and the local emergency plans (Eilat Municipality, Nature and Parks Authority) and factories in the Gulf of Eilat (EPA, Eilat Port, Navy) will be activated. The exercise will be attended by the Association, which together with the Ministry of Environmental Protection operates the network of marine emergency volunteers.

Eilat Bay is a particularly sensitive marine area, with a unique marine ecosystem, with protected and rare natural values - and there are still activities with significant pollution potential. Therefore, the Ministry of Environmental Protection conducts high-frequency exercises, in which all owners of emergency programs in the Gulf of Eilat are activated, and practitioners also increase their professional skill in treating oil or oil spills to the sea and beaches.
