The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Unity denied what was reported in a report by the British newspaper “The Independent” about Libya’s economic situation and the specter of bankruptcy.

The Foreign Media Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that this report was marred by many professional fallacies, most notably the absence of any statement from official bodies, and was based in its entirety on analyses from an undisclosed source that warn of the specter of bankruptcy.

The statement indicated that the report ignored all international reports issued by economic institutions such as the International Monetary Fund, which confirmed Libya’s good economic position and its ability to achieve high economic growth during 2024, estimated at approximately 8%.

According to the statement, this report confirmed the fact that this media outlet, which took the name of a well-known press institution, was affiliated with a political agenda through the writer of this report, who works for one of the biased channels affiliated with one of the political parties, which makes the words of the report more like false political accusations than a journalistic article.

The Department of External Media confirmed that the Government of National Unity welcomes any communication with the media to respond to any inquiries through it in order to clarify the facts.
