She also noted that the Belarusian side does not disclose the details of the case during the investigation. The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the relatives of the young people categorically reject the publication of information related to the said detention and, respecting this request, the Ministry will not make any comments.

Taking into account the involvement of Belarus in full-scale Russian hostilities against Ukraine, the increased activity of the armed forces of Russia and Belarus on the territory of Belarus, significant security risks and the unpredictable development of the security situation in the near future, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to call on Latvian nationals not to travel to Belarus.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that travelers may be subjected to provocations by Belarusian services and falsely accused of violating Belarusian laws and, as a result, arrested. The ministry adds that due to the lack of rule of law in Belarus, Latvia’s opportunities to provide assistance to such persons are very limited.

LETA already wrote that four young people from Latvia were detained in Belarus. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously stated that a call was received from the young people’s relatives about the fact of the arrest and clarified information from the official authorities.

According to a video published on social networks, young people went to Belarus to attend the festival. Marijuana was found in the car with the young people and all four were arrested.
