Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko reacted to the statement of the Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei that Crimea is now Russian territory. He said that the recognition by Minsk that the peninsula belongs to Russia would have “irreparable consequences” for relations between the two countries.

“The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry proceeds from the fact that Belarus officially still supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within the internationally recognized borders. Changing the approach of Belarus will lead to irreparable consequences for the Ukrainian-Belarusian relations, ”he told reporters (quoted by TASS).

Earlier, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said that Minsk proceeds from the fact that in reality “Crimea is now Russian territory”, noting that the position on this issue “remains as it was”.

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State on November 4 announced his readiness to visit Crimea. Prior to that, Mr. Lukashenko, during a “big conversation” with the press, said that he “recognizes Crimea” when “the last oligarch in Russia starts supplying products there.”
