Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population has highlighted certain cases in which pregnancy can pose a risk to the health of both the mother and child. These cases include early pregnancy before the age of eighteen, late pregnancy after the age of 35, close pregnancy before two years have passed since the last birth, and repeated pregnancy after four births. The ministry has stated that the ideal spacing period between births should be 3 to 5 years.

Dr. Amr Hassan, advisor to the Minister of Health for Population Affairs, has emphasized that the population increase should not exceed the state’s ability to provide services and should not negatively impact the individual’s share of natural resources. He further stated that Egypt is currently facing an uncontrolled population increase that exceeds the state’s capacity to provide necessary services.

Hassan explained that in order for citizens to truly feel the benefits of development projects, there needs to be an increase in economic growth and a decrease in population growth. The population growth rate must decrease as it directly affects the per capita share of natural resources. He pointed out that while the resource availability has remained constant since 1959, the population has increased four times since then.

These findings from the Ministry of Health and Population highlight the need for a more controlled approach to population growth in Egypt. By addressing the spacing between births and ensuring a sustainable population growth rate, the government aims to improve the well-being of citizens and optimize the utilization of natural resources.]
