Reducing the phenomenon of smoking and its harm is one of the most important national tasks in the field of public health and we are committed to the fight against smoking and its consequences. Unfortunately, within a few weeks, another 16-year-old boy was hospitalized following the use of electronic cigarettes.

This is a wake-up call and the Ministry of Health is determined to act in order to reduce the use of electronic cigarettes, which are a product harmful to health. Given the extent of the phenomenon’s spread, the ministry is examining all possible measures, and is working in many ways to raise awareness of the dangers of using these products.

We call on parents to be aware of the threat and talk to their children about the issue. Last week, the Ministry of Health began working to establish a team Leumi will re-examine the policy and work together to eradicate the phenomenon. The team will work in parallel with other actions taken together with government ministries and social factors in order to raise awareness of the harms of these dangerous products.”

It was further explained: “Also, the ministry called an emergency meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Education, the initiative to eradicate smoking, the national leadership of parents and the national student council, and other representatives in order to jointly plan a national campaign on the subject that will appeal to parents and children and raise awareness of the harms of these dangerous products.”

Finally, it was clarified: “The Ministry of Health calls on anyone who has questions about electronic cigarettes to call the Ministry of Health’s national smoking cessation hotline at *6800, between the hours of 8:00 and 20:00.”
