A meeting was held at the Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan with the representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Azerbaijan, Saja Faruk Abdullah.

As the Ministry of Health reported to Day.Az on Wednesday, at the meeting the parties discussed expanding cooperation between UNICEF and the Ministry of Health, as well as with other partners working in the healthcare sector of Azerbaijan, in order to strengthen work on immunization of children in the country. The possibility of developing a joint action plan and exploring specific areas that could contribute to immunization programs was also considered.

“Having greeted the guests, Minister of Health Teymur Musayev emphasized the multifaceted nature of the relationship between Azerbaijan and UNICEF.

“Over the past period, significant work has been done in the context of mutual cooperation. A number of projects have been successfully implemented in various areas in the field of healthcare, education, maternal and child health,” T. Musaev noted.

Teymur Musaev said that the Ministry of Health is taking important steps to improve the quality of services in the field of maternal and child health. The minister also noted that vaccine preparations were brought to Azerbaijan through UNICEF.

Teymur Musayev expressed confidence that Azerbaijan will continue to effectively cooperate with UNICEF.

In turn, Saja Faruk Abdullah recalled that UNICEF began working in Azerbaijan in 1993.

“UNICEF is committed to working closely with the government of Azerbaijan in building a better future for children and creating opportunities for the full development of their potential,” said S.F. Abdullah.

Highly appreciating the achieved level of partnership between Azerbaijan and UNICEF, Saja Faruk Abdullah noted that the cooperation program for 2021-2025 serves as the basis for closer interaction.

The UNICEF representative in our country positively assessed the prompt and active response of the Azerbaijani government to the local spread of measles, which began at the end of 2023 and is currently ongoing, as well as the educational activities of the Ministry of Health in this direction.

In conclusion, the parties discussed issues of cooperation in priority areas,” the department said in a statement.
