Deputy Industry and Trade of Russia Viktor Evtukhov commented on the possibility of new agreements with retailers and manufacturers to curb food prices. According to him, while the chains are very responsible in their pricing policy – the margins are minimal.

“We believe that the work with food manufacturers is now quite effective, the Networks are very responsible with the networks – minimum mark-ups, so so far there is no talk of any agreements,” said Mr. Evtukhov during the EXPO-2020 exhibition (quote from TASS).

In the summer, agreements on the stabilization of prices for granulated sugar ceased to operate in Russia. They were concluded against the backdrop of rising product prices. The agreements were fixed at the maximum wholesale and retail prices: for sugar – 36 rubles. per kilogram wholesale and 46 rubles. in retail, for sunflower oil – 95 and 110 rubles. respectively.

Initially, the agreements were in effect until April 1, but later they were extended until June 1 (sugar agreement) and October 1 (butter agreement) in 2021.
