The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation does not see the need for a complete ban on the export of ferrous scrap from Russia. This was announced to reporters on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) by the head of the ministry, Denis Manturov.

“As of today – not yet,” he said, answering the relevant question.

Manturov added that at the meeting held on June 1, the heads of metallurgical companies could not present a unified position on this issue.

“When we met, metallurgists, they also had a split opinion. For example, electrometallurgical industries that actively use scrap metal, they are in favor of raising the duty, and those who work on iron ore raw materials (iron ore) are not profitable for them, ”the minister said.

On June 15, the board of the Eurasian Economic Commission should discuss the issue of a temporary ban on the export of ferrous scrap from the EAEU countries until January 15, 2022.

At the end of May of this year, the Commission for Economic Development and Integration made a decision to adjust the rates of export duties on scrap and waste of ferrous metals. The percentage of the duty will remain unchanged – 5% of the customs value, while the minimum duty will be changed from € 45 to € 70 per ton. Thus, the export duty rates will be 5%, but not less than € 70 per 1 ton.
