by time news

The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia supported the initiative to temporarily exempt buyers of domestic cars from transport tax for two to three years, Izvestia reports, citing a letter from the head of the department, Denis Manturov, to State Duma deputy Vitaly Milonov.

The proposal has not yet been received by the Ministry of Finance, but the department noted that they are ready to consider it. The transport tax depends on the engine power. So, the tax can reach up to 75,000 rubles. per year, experts told Izvestia.

The transport tax was introduced in Russia in 2003. Its idea is that car owners compensate for the damage they cause to roads and the environment. The tax does not apply to owners of electric cars. The money from the tax goes to the road industry, including repairs at their expense. Milonov is convinced that the refusal for several years from the transport tax for domestically produced cars will stimulate the demand for the purchase of such cars.
