Searches of the financial director of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation (RANEPA) Alexander Efremov and Vice-Rector Ivan Fedotov were carried out as part of the investigation into the case of employees who were fictitiously hired at the university. This is stated on the official website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

“The fact of unjustified payment of budgetary funds to twelve employees of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, who were fictitiously employed at the Institute of Social Sciences of the RANEPA for the posts of researchers, was previously established,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

The department clarified that, according to preliminary data, they did not work in an educational organization, but regularly received salaries. The case was opened under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code (Fraud committed by an organized group or on an especially large scale or resulting in the deprivation of a citizen’s right to housing).

This case was separated into a separate proceeding from the case that was initiated against the ex-deputy minister of education and former vice-president of Sberbank Marina Rakova, as well as the rector of the Moscow Higher School of Social and Economic Sciences (“Shaninka”) Sergei Zuev. A TASS source said that Efremov and Fedotov were witnesses, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the case was open against “unidentified accomplices in the crime.”
