Latvia has adopted amendments to the Immigration Law, which states that before September 1, Russian citizens who were previously citizens or non-citizens of Latvia must pass an exam in knowledge of the Latvian language. Without the exam, their permanent residence permit will be canceled and they will have to leave Latvia. RusDelfi sent an inquiry to the Ministry of the Interior asking if the same option was being considered in Estonia.

Meanwhile, many Russian citizens with temporary and permanent residence permits in Estonia are concerned about the adopted amendments to the law in Latvia.
“It’s scary to think if a decision is made here too, because often neighboring countries look at each other,” says Russian Alexander. – Now there are already quite a lot of sanctions and restrictions on citizens with red passports, for example, it is impossible to come to Estonia either for work or study. But here, many plan to wait out the war, many to receive citizenship in the future. The Estonian language is not the easiest in terms of learning, it’s just that you can’t bring it up to the level of passing the exam in a couple of months. Therefore, I really sympathize with fellow countrymen who decided to move to Latvia – now they will have a hard time there.
