The deadline for issuing a Russian passport will be reduced to five days from July 1 of this year. On Saturday, January 8, they recalled this in the press center of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“From July 1, 2022, a new passport will be issued within five working days, regardless of place of residence, stay, actual residence or circumstances of its replacement,” TASS reports the department.

Last summer, the corresponding decree was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. Now the period for issuing a passport is 10 days if the documents are submitted at the place of residence, and 30 days in other cases. In addition, the validity of the passports to be replaced will be extended from 30 to 90 days. Similarly, there will be a deadline for submitting documents for obtaining a passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation upon reaching the age of 14.

Electronic passports of citizens of the Russian Federation can also be issued in five days, the Ministry of Internal Affairs specified. It is planned to start issuing new documents in three pilot regions – Moscow, Moscow region and Tatarstan – by the end of 2022, in other regions the procedure will be launched no later than July 1, 2023.

It is expected that the e-passport will exist in two formats: in the form of a smart card, which will replace the traditional paper passport, and a mobile application, which will allow, in some cases, to show a special QR code instead of a card. The Ministry of Internal Affairs previously reported that at the initial stage, the number of such passports will be at least 100,000, while they will be issued on a voluntary basis to citizens from 14 years of age.
