JAKARTA – The Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) did not hesitate to freeze permits Islamic boarding school Al Zaytun. Freezing and even revocation of permits is carried out if the Islamic boarding school in West Java is proven to be heretical.
Ministry of Religion Spokesperson Anna Hasbie explained that as the regulator for the implementation of religious education, the Ministry of Religion through the Directorate General of Islamic Education was given the authority to issue statistical numbers and registration marks for Islamic boarding schools.
This is regulated in the Decree of the Director General of Islamic Education No. 1626 of 2023 concerning Technical Instructions for Registration of Islamic Boarding Schools.
“If Az-Zaytun commits a serious violation, spreads religious views that are suspected of being heretical, then we can freeze the statistics and registration numbers of the Islamic boarding schools, including their madrasa permits,” said Anna as quoted on the Ministry of Religion’s official website, Friday (23/6/2023).
The Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School is currently listed as having both statistical numbers and registration marks. As the issuing party, the Directorate General of Islamic Education also has the authority to freeze the statistical numbers and registration marks of Islamic boarding schools.
“As a regulator, the Ministry of Religion has administrative power to limit the movement of institutions that are suspected of committing serious legal violations,” said Anna Hasbie.
Thus, regarding the dynamics that are developing around the Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School, the Ministry of Religion and related agencies and Islamic organizations are currently conducting a comprehensive study.
The goal is to formulate a position on the various information and facts found and clarified regarding Al Zaytun.
