Until August 11, police officers from all over the country, active or retired, can register in the call for the award of loans to buy used homes or land, reported the national director of Police Assistance and Social Security, Luis Rodríguez. In total, more than 213,000,000 pesos will be allocated, 60% more than in 2022, for some 80 loans from the Police Housing Fund.

The chief explained, in an interview with Presidential Communication, that in Montevideo and Canelones 25 mortgage loans are granted to buy used housing, for 3,200,000 pesos each, and 12 to purchase a house or land, for 1,720,000 pesos each.

In addition, he specified that, in the rest of the country, 17 loans are assigned for the purchase of used housing and 4 for the acquisition of a house or land, for the same amounts as in Montevideo and Canelones. Rodríguez clarified that in each department a public lottery will be held in case the maximum amount established is exceeded.

He also pointed out that loans to buy a home are granted in a maximum of 300 monthly installments, with an annual interest rate of 1%, and, to purchase a house or land, in a maximum of 200 monthly installments and with the same interest rate.

In total, 213,520,000 pesos will be allocated for more than 80 loans, through the trust with the National Development Corporation, which represents an increase of 60%, compared to 2022, when 20 loans were granted.

“It is a transparent fund with strict controls. It is the largest number of loans that have been granted since the adjudication process began,” Rodríguez stressed.

The interviewee indicated that, to access these benefits, the interested parties must be active or retired police officers contributing to the Guardianship Fund, the liabilities must be under 60 years of age, the cancellation period may not exceed the applicant’s 70 years of age, their Institutional seniority must not be less than 5 years and they must reside in the department for which they present their application.

In addition, they must not be homeowners or promising buyers of a property or holders of the right to use and enjoy housing financed by the State or have been effective recipients of a state housing subsidy.

Those who sign up to participate must not be covered by the Temporary Subsidy for Partial Disability or be in a disciplinary process at the time of applying for or granting the mortgage loan. They must have more than 30% or 35% of the salary of their police assets and neither the owner nor the legally recognized spouse or cohabitant must be attached.

Registration is done in person at all country offices.
