DECRYPTION – The unions are seduced, some companies apply it without reduction of work. But the leaders warn about the constraints.

Having lost its fight against pension reform, the left has found a new hobbyhorse by defending the four-day week.

“We have a right to laziness, we have the right to take breaks in our lives, and above all, we have to find time, the sense of sharing and the four-day week”, says EELV deputy Sandrine Rousseau. Forgetting in passing that work cannot be shared – the 35-hour reform has shown this – and that it is, on the contrary, stronger growth which makes it possible to give work to everyone.

On the union side, it is a historic fight for the CGT, which has been pleading for years for the 32-hour week over four days. But other organizations are coming to it: a few days ago the CFE-CGC executives union asked the insurance companies for consultation to experiment with the four-day week, with or without a reduction in working hours.
