The mayor of Coyoacán, Giovani Gutiérrez, supervised the progress of drainage replacement and resurfacing works in the Prado Churubusco and Espartaco neighborhoods, assuring that it is part of the commitments made to the neighbors.

“The mission of a good government is to ensure that you can live better, that your streets and avenues are in good condition, that your surroundings are safe and well-lit, that your taxes are reflected in a better quality of life,” said Gutiérrez during the supervision of the urban infrastructure rehabilitation works.

The works being carried out on the drainage system of the Prado Churubusco colony consist of the renovation of half a kilometer of sanitary and storm sewer lines that run along Osa Menor Street, on the stretch from Perseo to Vía Láctea, the purpose of which is to avoid sinkholes due to the rainy season and the lack of maintenance of the network.

The work also aims to prevent the reflux of sewage, which occurs when the liquid flows through the sewer pipes in the opposite direction and can re-enter homes, as according to neighbors, the situation has occurred once in the last 10 years.

Gutiérrez added that in addition to the work on the drainage network, there will be repaving work in Osa Menor, in the section between Avenida Ermita-Iztapalapa and Cerro de las Torres; after which he highlighted that 109 streets have been repaved during the current administration.

To carry out these works, the pipe had to be removed and replaced with a high-density polyethylene pipe, which is estimated to last at least 40 years. In addition, the household connections will be replaced with new pipes, and 11 manholes will be built. The areas that were demolished will then be filled and finished with concrete.

Meanwhile, in the Espartaco neighborhood, the mayor toured the asphalt renovation works being carried out on 11th Street, which is being resurfaced in the section that runs from Benito Juárez Street to 2nd Street, and which covers more than 11,492 square meters.

The road works include the re-levelling of curbs and drainage grates; the rehabilitation of speed bumps; and the marking of marimbas, arrows, lanes and stop lines.

The Director General of Public Works and Urban Services, Martha Elguea, indicated that the works in progress will prevent road accidents, improve road conditions and reverse the deterioration that the streets suffer during the rainy season.
