The policy pursued by Morocco in the sports field, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, and the investments made to strengthen sports infrastructure and training, the Mohammed VI Football Academy in particular, “were quick to bear fruit”, stressed Mr. Diop, publication director of the Magazine “l’Equipe Type”, in a statement to MAP.
Since the launch of the Mohammed VI Academy in 2009, Morocco has begun to reap the benefits of its far-sighted strategy, Diop added, highlighting the national team’s fine performance at the 2022 World Cup and at the start of the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations currently taking place in Côte d’Ivoire.
Morocco, which ended the year 2023 on the roof of Africa, has also risen in the world football rankings, in view of its formidable epic in Qatar, noted Mr. Diop, who is also a sports consultant at Yeuggle TV.
He noted in this regard that it is the first time in history that an African nation, in this case Morocco, has reached the quarter-finals of a world championship, occupying 4th place in the Qatar World Cup.
On a continental and global scale, both at club and national level, Morocco “is making people talk about its know-how,” he continued, noting that three players who attended the Mohammed VI Football Academy are now playing for the national team.
Nayef Aguerd, Azedinne Ounahi and Youssef En-Nesyri, who play in prestigious European clubs, are true ambassadors of the Mohammed VI Football Academy which constitutes “a formidable breeding ground dedicated to laying the foundations of a high-performance and conquering Moroccan football”, he insisted.
Mr. Diop further explained that the victories and performances of the Atlas Lions “were only possible thanks to a thoughtful policy based on the development of infrastructure and training, which are absolutely necessary to promote a quality elite.
And to conclude that Morocco is full of footballing talents who, in a favorable and enchanting environment like that of the Mohammed VI Academy, can only sharpen their skills and carry the colors of Morocco very high in prestigious world competitions.
