Located in Sala Al Jadida, near Rabat, on nearly 18 hectares, the AMF trains the nuggets of tomorrow, underlines the pan-African media in an article posted online, under the title “the Mohammed VI Football Academy, factory of champions”.

“Inaugurated by the Sovereign on March 31, 2010, this institution set itself the primary objective of promoting training made in Morocco and it has been achieved,” notes the publication.

”Before 2010, training was average, which had an impact on the level of the national team,” recalls Tarik Elkhazri, technical manager at the AMF, quoted by the media.

“Today, the Moroccan selections and clubs owe their return to favor on the continental and international scene in part to this factory of champions,” we add.

Recalling that four “academicists” reached the semi-finals of the Qatar 2022 World Cup with the national team, Jeune Afrique explains that the latest feat of arms is the 2023 U17 World Cup, in Indonesia, where the Atlas Lion Cubs reached the quarter-finals for the first time in their history.

In this selection, finalist of the CAN U17 in Algeria, no less than nine players come from the AMF, notes the magazine, ensuring that the “next generation is there”.

And to continue that ”among the U23s, African champions in 2023 and qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, six academics rose to the highest step of the podium. Same satisfaction among the very young members of the U15 team: 60% of the workforce comes from the AMF.

“A world reference and source of inspiration for several African and European federations, the AMF model is based on a dual objective: sporting and academic,” emphasizes Elkhazri.

”The young people we train continue their education internally, which is rare, even in large centers of international renown, where the school is often located outside,” he tells Jeune Afrique, recalling that “the AMF has a primary school, a middle school and a high school. Better still, the second cycle can be provided either at the AMF itself, or at the nearby Mohammed-VI-Polytechnic University (UM6P), or even at the Mohammed-V University in Rabat.

And Jeune Afrique continues that in an “unprecedented approach, the AMF has concluded partnerships with American universities for young people who wish to continue their studies across the Atlantic, while continuing to practice their sport. Three of them have already succeeded in combining football and scientific research.

The magazine also reviews the daily training program at the Academy, which has 12 regional branches, one in each region of the Kingdom, which each offer playing fields, equipment and technical supervision to young talents, aged 9 at the age of 12.
