Kannur: The late prominent Congress leader Satishan Patcheni faced big problems in the last few days as his responsibilities in the party disappeared. Many of his colleagues did not know that he worked for an insurance company for a living. Patcheni joined the Punjab National Bank Met Life as an insurance manager when there were no responsibilities within the organization and in the parliamentary field.

His desire was to settle the financial obligations incurred during the organization and to build a house. Satheesan Patcheni remained the only KPCC member after stepping down as DCC president last year. AK Antony was expected to get a chance to join the Rajya Sabha when he resigned. But it didn’t happen. As the responsibilities in the Congress organization and in the parliamentary field disappeared, the question of what to do next in life came before Patcheni.

That’s how Patcheni went as a candidate for an interview at Punjab National Bank Met Life Insurance. Passed the interview and joined the job as an insurance manager this June. The job involved attracting investors to Met Life Insurance and recruiting new people for field work. Patcheni, who has been working in the public sector for four decades, was not even able to afford a house of his own.

The money kept for that purpose was spent on the construction of DDC office building. This was later returned by the party. Patcheni often found money by borrowing from friends and pledging gold for the financial needs of the organization. Those close to us say that Patcheni has a liability of more than 10 lakh rupees, including a bank loan.

As he did not have his own home, Patcheni’s body was kept at his brother Suresh’s house to pay his last respects to his relatives and locals. Many of Satheesan’s colleagues, who today glorify his ideal life, did not know that Patcheni lived his last days working for an insurance company. KPCC president K Sudhakaran had informed that the Congress will take over the debts of Satheesan, who even spent the money from selling his house for the party office, and will provide a house to his family.
