It seemed to start as a prank on April 1st, but eventually turned out to be one of the happiest news for fans of the adventure games genre: Ron GilbertCreator of the ‘Monkey Island’ series of games, has announced a new title called Return to Monkey Island.
The announcement of the new game first appeared on the Grumpy Gamer blog maintained by Gilbert in which he wrote in a post titled April 1, 2022 “For 18 years the blog has been free of April 1 tension because it’s a silly tradition. So to mix things up a bit I take this opportunity to announce it. That I decided to create another game of Monkey Island. “
Most news sites did not comment on the news because of the timing but a few days later the distributor Devolver Digital uploaded an exposure video and announced that the game is completely real. From the video you can learn that the game will offer the same two-dimensional design as the classic games in the series and is developed by Terrible Toybox in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and when the plot of the game will of course be written by Gilbert.
The new game will be a direct sequel to Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge and the players will once again play the character of the want-to-be-pirate Gavrash Tripwood who will be voiced once again Dominic Armato Who gave his voice to the previous games in the series.
