Once upon a time… there was a Monastery where only three monks held the secret formula of a rather special alcoholic beverage: Chartreuse. Developed in 1840, the liqueurs of the Chartreux Fathers are now known throughout the world. Proof of this celebrity, at the beginning of March, bottles put up for auction even broke records, recording sales totaling 1.6 million euros.
Faced with a success that is undeniable year after year, demand therefore continues to grow. A situation that would logically encourage an increase in production capacity. But faced with record sales volumes – 1.2 million liters sold in 2022 – the company, as well as the monks, have decided to take a completely different turn: not to produce more. The company entrusts the Figaro to have “made a choice for the future more than 3 years ago: to assume a chosen development and a limited supply of liqueurs over the long term».
