Britain: The city administration has approved a plan to pave the way for the celebration of the Tamil language and arts in London. There are about 15,000 Tamils working in the UK as doctors, nurses and leading health professionals. In addition, thousands of Tamils work as teachers and teaching assistants in British schools. Through this the Tamils have made a significant contribution to the social, economic, cultural and political structure in Britain. In this context, it has been announced that the coming month of January in London will be celebrated as the Tamil Heritage Month.
Accordingly, the London Municipal Administration has announced that the month of January will be observed annually as the Tamil Heritage Month. Negro Gerz, a Conservative member of the London City Council, proposed a resolution for Tamil Heritage Month. All members unanimously approved the resolution. Therefore, next month will be observed in London as the Tamil Heritage Month and events will be held to celebrate the Tamil language, culture and art. It is noteworthy that a similar Tamil Heritage Month is already being celebrated in Canada.
