“Strengthened by its achievements at the national level and in accordance with its international commitments, the Moroccan presidency of the HRC will engage with the same principles, values and working methods which characterize Moroccan diplomacy, under the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI , namely credibility in action, dynamism in performance, innovation in methods and the quest for constructive consensus to achieve the noble objectives for which this body was created”, indicated Mr. Bourita, in his speech as part of the high-level segment of the 55th session of the HRC, chaired by Morocco.

The election of the Kingdom at the head of this important UN body, he assured, constitutes international recognition of Morocco’s firm commitment, in accordance with the High Directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in favor of the promotion of human rights at the national, regional and international levels.

”Thanks to the far-sighted Vision of HM the King, Morocco has made significant progress in the establishment of an integrated human rights system, through the implementation of several reform and quality initiatives, such as the Moroccan experience in transitional justice, the Family Code reform project, the national initiative for human development, the development model of the southern provinces, the new development model and the generalization of social protection, which are all royal projects that are benchmarks in terms of human rights,” detailed Mr. Bourita.

The minister, on the other hand, recalled that ”the 55th session of the HRC is taking place in a complex international context, which poses difficult challenges, in particular the strong polarization at the international level, which undermines the foundations of a global consensus for the promotion of human rights, the persistence of serious violations of human rights in many regions of the world, the decline of the achievements obtained by the international community on fundamental issues, such as the enjoyment of economic and social rights, the status of women, the rights of children, the situation of migrants and refugees, as well as the rise in hate speech.

Despite the remarkable achievements made by the Council since its creation, it faces challenges that hinder its evolution, as it is currently experiencing attempts to exploit certain issues and divert their objectives in the service of agendas that have no nothing to do with human rights, he noted.

And to emphasize that the Kingdom of Morocco, through its presidency of the HRC, will work to launch a series of initiatives, including the convening of an extraordinary session of the Council on a consensual theme which will be the subject of consultation , the organization of a retreat to assess the effectiveness of the Council and draw practical recommendations as part of the process of reviewing the working methods of the HRC, planned for 2026, in addition to the launch of an initiative, with a group of partners, on women in diplomacy, particularly in the field of human rights.

On the sidelines of his participation in the 55th session of the HRC, Mr. Bourita had bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Bahrain, Kazakhstan and the Netherlands. He also met with the High Commissioner for Refugees and the High Commissioner for Human Rights.
