In 2024, the dance world received great attention with the birth of star dancers such as Choi Ho-jong and Jeon Min-cheol. In the new year of 2025, the dance world is preparing a variety of new works in various genres, including Korean dance, ballet, and modern dance, based on this expanded base.

The National Dance Company of Korea, which produced the ‘idol of the Korean dance world’ Choi Ho-jong, is joining hands with a modern dancer for the second time this year. The new work ‘Beauty’, which will be performed at the Haeoreum Theater of the National Theater in Jung-gu, Seoul from April 3 to 6, is the most anticipated work of the year. Choreographer Jeong Bo-kyung, who recently became known as a coach in a dance survival entertainment show, and Yang Jeong-woong, director of the play ‘Macbeth’, which became a hot topic last year with actor Hwang Jung-min’s appearance, collaborated.

From June 25th to 29th, the new work ‘Five Vibes’ by modern dancer Ye Hyo-seung, selected by Hermes and Nike, will be held at Daloreum Theater. All male dancers from the National Dance Company of Korea appear, expressing primordial freedom and dynamism.

New contemporary dance works by prominent choreographers are also attracting attention. On November 8th and 9th, the National Contemporary Dance Company of Korea will premiere ‘One flat thing, reproduced’, a masterpiece by world-renowned modern dancer William Forsyth, at the Haeoreum Theater of the National Theater.

Dancers and choreographers Kim Bo-ram, Lee Jae-young, and Jeong Cheol-in will gather in ‘We Had No Choice to Move’, which will be held from May 23 to 25 at the CJ Towol Theater at the Seoul Arts Center in Seocho-gu, Seoul. Ryu Jang-hyun’s new work ‘Gravity’, who choreographed ‘I Don’t Want to Die’, will be performed at the Arko Arts Theater Grand Theater in Jongno-gu, Seoul from the 7th to the 9th of next month.

A series of heavy new works continues in the ballet world, where ballerino Jeon Min-cheol, the ‘second Kim Ki-min’, attracted attention last year. Wise Ballet’s new work ‘God: Serengeti’ will be performed at the Grand Theater of Daehakro Arts Theater in Jongno-gu, Seoul from the 28th of next month to March 1st. The greatness and recklessness of human civilization trying to surpass God are expressed through dance.

The National Ballet presents new works by two world-renowned choreographers. The first to welcome the audience is ‘Camellia Lady’, which will be held at the Seoul Arts Center Opera Theater from May 7th to 11th. It is known as the work that gave Kang Soo-jin, artistic director of the National Ballet, the ‘Benoit de la Danse’, called the Academy Award of the dance world. World-renowned ballet choreographer John Neumeier choreographed the dance to the music of Frédéric Chopin.

The ‘Killian Project’, which combines three works by leading Czech choreographer Irzy Kylian, will also meet audiences at the GS Performance Hall in Gangnam-gu, Seoul from June 26 to 29. The choreography was inspired by Edvard Munch’s paintings.
