The most beautiful blazers for all genders

by time news

What is the name of the garment for men that can be seen seven times in this article? Jacket? Sounds like New Economy, like dark blue jeans with dark blue jackets, preferably with a polo shirt or pink shirt underneath. Or jacket? A term that is even more outdated. Even the sound of a jacket is reminiscent of a male society in all the places where decisions are made. We want to have overcome these times long ago.

Do you dare to simply call these throws, which are hanging here in our new FAZ tower for the photos, blazers? Didn’t the blazer belong to women? Yes, but gender stereotypes are slowly disappearing.

Clear signal, clear excitement

Hardly anything defines us more as a man or as a woman than our look, and hardly anything can break with conventional thought patterns more easily than our look. The subject is not new, but there are far more known examples of women in men’s clothing than men in women’s clothing. In Paris around 1870, the actress Sarah Bernhardt wore tailored suits – against the law in force in France that forbade women from wearing pants. The signal was clear, as was the excitement.

Bruno Cucinelli's blazer is made of cashmere.

Against the stereotypes

Marlene Dietrich debuted in 1930 in Hollywood wearing a tuxedo, bow tie and top hat. However, that was costumes for her film “Morocco”, and fashion-conscious women already had trousers at that time. Yves Saint Laurent then launched Le Smoking in 1966. Since then, women have needed ties and oversized boyfriend-borrowed shirts to wear fashion that still has a male connotation. From then on, the blazer was theirs.

Is girlfriend fashion for men coming? Harry Styles is already the icon of this decade, maybe even this century, with its brooches, handbags, necklaces and – tight blazers. The blazers, let’s just call them that now, because jackets and jackets are no longer fashion terms – on this side there are also broad shoulders.

So it’s fitting that they are no longer made from the traditional suit fabric alone, but from cashmere by Loro Piana and Brunello Cucinelli. Made from Boss wool and cord from Mey & Edlich. And instead of boredom midnight blue, these blazers are now often provided with a decorative Prince of Wales check pattern, for example by Brioni, by Dior Men and in the looser version by Closed, which is almost like a spring jacket.
