The ceremony of awarding the traditional award for high sports achievements “ZƏFƏR” based on the results of 2023, established by Sportsman magazine, took place in Baku, the organizers of the evening told Day.Az. Interestingly, as part of the event, for the first time in the country, a beauty contest was held among young athletes and sportswomen “Miss&Mister Sport”. The guests were presented with a concert program.
Editor-in-Chief of Sportsman magazine Rashad Gamarshahoglu noted in his speech that the award has been awarded since 2008 and has become a clear indicator of the development of sports in Azerbaijan. It was noted that the state has created all the conditions for the development of sports, important steps are being taken to strengthen the material and technical base in this area, various competitions are held at a high level, great care and attention is shown to athletes and sports veterans, athletes achieve great success in World and European Championships, Olympic Games, various other international competitions.
Representative of the National Olympic Committee Murad Farzaliyev and representative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan Gabil Mehdiyev read out congratulatory letters on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Sportsman magazine and wished the athletes further success.
In the “ZƏFƏR” nominations the following were awarded: “Athlete of the Year” – Mikhail Malkin (gymnastics), “Athlete of the Year” (non-Olympic sports) – Ramil Ahmed (powerlifting), “Athlete of the Year” – Ayan Allahverdieva (chess), “Veteran of the Year” ” – Vugar Namazov (powerlifting), “Coach of the Year” – Richard Trautmann (judo), “For the will to win” – Zaur Jafarov (powerlifting), “Referee of the Year” – Aliyar Agayev (football), “Sports Specialist of the Year” – President Azerbaijan Sumo Federation Samir Abdullayev, “National Team of the Year” – the national team of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation, “The most successful federation in 10 years” – Azerbaijan Kickboxing Federation, “Sports Club of the Year” – SK “Neftchi”, “Sports Competition of the Year” – 53- 1st World Shooting Championship, held in Baku, “Sports Complex of the Year” – “Sərhədçi idman mərkəzi”, “For contribution to the development of sports” – sports psychology specialist Kazim Aliyev, “For contribution to the development of volleyball” – President of the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation Shahin Bagirov, “For contribution to the development of children’s football” – Arif Zeynalov, “For the promotion of Azerbaijani football” – Director of the Azerbaijani national representative office of MGTRK “Mir” Ilgar Pashazade.
