The increase in the cost of living has affected all layers of the population, including the upper class. Although not all cities are equally expensive to live.
According to the Lifestyle Index published by the Swiss manager Julius Baer, in which he has analyzed the price of 20 items associated with an upscale cosmopolitan lifestyle, such as ‘preme’ residential properties, luxury cars, business class flights and extravagant dining, Singapore is currently the most expensive city on the planet for the wealthiest classes, after overtaking Shanghaiwhich topped the list in 2022.
In this year’s edition, Hong King joins Singapore and Shanghai at the top of the tableas number 3. Next on the list are London, New York, Monaco, Dubai, Taipei, São Paulo and Miami.
Already out of the ‘top 10’, but among the top 20 positions globally, we find several European metropolises, such as Paris, which has gone from position 10 to 13; Zurich, which drops from 7 to 14; Milan, which falls from position 13 to 16; and Barcelona, which drops three places, to stay at 19. Frankfurt, on the other hand, leaves the ranking by going from position 17 to 22. This year Tokyo has also lost places, which goes from 8 to 15; and Sydney, which falls from ninth to seventeenth place.
According to the report, Miami, Dubai, Jakarta and New York have registered the largest increases in the cost of living in the last year.
