After passing its turn for the year 2022, E3 is making its comeback for a colorful 2023 edition. The video game festival indeed resumes its original formula of gigantic physical event.

[Mis à jour le 12 juillet 2022 à 17h05] It’s back to the future for the E3 show in 2023. The world’s biggest video game conference is making a comeback next year after canceling what was supposed to be its second digital edition in 2022. Except this time Here, the Electronic Entertainment Expo intends to come back in force, and especially face-to-face. This is at least the intention of the organizers of the event who have partnered with the company ReedPop (Star Wars Celebration, PAX) for next year. An intention that reached us through a press release from the ESA (Entertainment Software Association) just after the announcement of the cancellation of E3 2022 a few months ago.

As a reminder, E3 has been struggling for a few years to keep its head above water, having suffered in 2019 from the absence of Sony, one of its biggest exhibitors who had then decided to stand apart, then subsequently from the coronavirus pandemic forcing it to cancel two of its editions (2020,2022) and to organize a more than average digital 2021 edition. The icing on the cake, for three years, the E3 has had a serious competitor in the person of Geoff Keighley. The star video game host and journalist set up his own festival in 2020, the Summer Game Fest, which was able to fill the void left by E3 during these three years of the pandemic. And this new event has the fangs and intends to force the E3 to coexist, especially when the two festivals have planned to organize physical events in 2023.

Let’s also keep in mind that the Summer Game Fest was not welcomed with open arms by the players either, its 2022 edition having been criticized for the absence of key players and the timidity of its “revolutionary” announcements. . Geoff Keighley’s event is a nice addition to the summer video game season, and his presence could also raise the level between the two exhibitors. Hoping also that the face-to-face festivals of 2023 do not overlap.

Although E3 and Summer Game Fest have announced their intention to organize large-scale physical events for their 2023 editions, no mention has yet been made of possible dates. The good news is that E3 has confirmed they want to re-associate with “publishers, developers, journalists, content creators, manufacturers, buyers and license ownersto organize next year’s edition. We could therefore witness the return of this legendary conference to the Los Angeles Convention Center, and see our fellow geeks emerging from their lairs for the first time since February 2020.

As of now, no other exact dates have been confirmed for the next video game conferences in 2023. Stay tuned for more information later in May.
