The most important leaks about the upcoming MacBook Air M2

by time news

It’s been over a month since the MacBook Pro M2 and MacBook Air M2 were officially revealed. The new MacBook Air is available for pre-order now, starting at $1,199, and there’s a lot to expect for this laptop.

While a hands-on review of the new device will be available soon, potential buyers are keen to see if it delivers the promised 20% speed boost over the previous generation. Thanks to the new listing on the benchmarking site Geek Punch, the speed boost seems certain.

According to the list, the M2 chip will be clocked at 3.49GHz which produces a single-core score of 1,899 and offers a multi-core performance of 8,965. Despite having a “2” in the title, the chip isn’t the most powerful in Apple’s computing arsenal. This honor goes to the M1 Ultra chip, which scores on the Mac Studio scores of 1,754 and 23,356 in both tests. These results will likely only improve when Apple releases its M2 Pro, M2 Max, and M2 Ultra chips.

But it’s important to stress that the said M1 Ultra chip will cost at least $3,999 in a Mac Studio. While the price of the MacBook Air 2022 is $1199.

MacBook Air M2 vs MacBook Pro M2
Of course, the new MacBook Air isn’t the only new Apple laptop to feature the M2 chip. Apple also released the 13-inch MacBook Pro M2, reflecting its strategy with the M1 in 2020.

As mentioned earlier, the MacBook Air M2 has an ultra-slim and fanless design, which ensures that it won’t make any noise during operation, but that means it’s more prone to overheating if you overstress it.

The MacBook Pro M2 has active cooling, which means it will probably perform better if you’ve been doing heavy work for a long time, as the fans can work to cool things down and prevent throttling. Prices start at $1,299.

The MacBook Pro M2 is distinguished by its battery life, while the MacBook Air battery may last for 15 hours of wireless web browsing, the MacBook Pro battery can last for 17 hours, according to the Toms Guide website.
