The most profitable investments for 2021 are named: bitcoin, real estate, stocks

Experts have analyzed the profitability of various assets over the past 12 months

The largest income for ordinary investors in 2021 was brought by investments in bitcoin, the purchase of housing in new buildings and the acquisition of shares in Russian and American companies. This is evidenced by the FinExpertiza study. Investors earned 25-65% of profit on these instruments over the past year. Investments in euros, gold and OFZ turned out to be the most unprofitable.

FinExpertiza analysts have calculated what the final profit would have been received by an ordinary investor at the end of 12 months, if in January 2021 he invested 100 thousand rubles in various financial instruments. It turned out that the simplest and most traditional way to increase savings – to open a ruble deposit in a bank – is not so profitable. In January 2021, the maximum rate on deposits in the largest banks was 4.5%. At the same time, prices were growing throughout the year and the final profitability on a deposit of 100 thousand rubles in December does not even cover inflation, which will exceed 8% by the end of the year.

The second popular popular way of saving is buying currency. But this year it has fallen short of Russians’ expectations. The yield on the dollar turned out to be zero – it trades against the ruble at approximately the same positions as at the beginning of the year. And citizens who invested in euros lost 7.8% at all on such a purchase. “The euro has really sagged against the ruble and the dollar: if at the beginning of the year the euro was sold at 91 rubles, today it was at 83.5,” confirms Mikhail Kogan, Head of the Analytical Research Department of the Higher School of Financial Management… – For the European currency, 2021 turned out to be not the best year, but it’s still not worth saying that this is the most unprofitable investment. Investors in the Turkish lira, which has slipped 60% against the dollar, will definitely disagree. ” Those who invested in government bonds (loss of 5.1%) and corporate bonds (0.7%) also lost.

And most of all earned – got 65.6% profit after tax of 13% – risky investors who bet on bitcoin. The value of this cryptocurrency has been growing for the second year in a row, and in 2021 it increased by 75.4%. But this is not the limit. “Investments in some other cryptocurrencies were even more profitable, albeit very high-risk investments,” notes Natalia Milchakova, Deputy Head of IAC “Alpari”… “For example, the ethereum cryptocurrency -” ether “- has tripled in price over the year.”

Real estate has brought good income to Russian investors – due to the rapid rise in prices for new buildings, caused by the program of preferential mortgages. Over the year, the cost per square meter of new housing in Russia on average increased by 33%.

Purchases of shares also proved to be profitable. Those who invested in the most profitable US securities from the S&P 500 list would have received a 25.7% profit after tax, and those who bought Russian shares earned an average of 16.5% “clean”.

But in 2022, the situation may change. “As a rule, the best-performing assets of the previous year do not bring the same profitability next year,” says Artem Tuzov, Executive Director of the Capital Market Department, Investment Company “Univer Capital”… “That is why diversification and rebalancing between asset classes is so important for an investor. Russia remains the beneficiary of the global energy crisis, which is smoothly replacing the pandemic, so investments in the Russian stock market in 2022 can bring good returns. ” While the increase in the FRS rate in the United States, against the background of high inflation, can provoke a collapse in the American stock market, which, by the way, can be carried over to other markets, including the Russian one, the expert notes.

Well, where is it worth, or, on the contrary, is it absolutely not worth investing in 2022 with a high guarantee of getting a good profit? What risks should you pay attention to? “I believe that there is no need to be afraid of geopolitical exacerbations of the situation in Ukraine or new sanctions, in my opinion, there will be no exacerbations there,” says Alexander Razuvaev, a member of the Supervisory Board of the Guild of Financial Analysts and Risk Managers. – The crisis in Turkey should be feared. If the national currency fails there even more – up to 20-30 lira per dollar, it will shake all developing markets, including Russia. There will be a repeat of 2008 or 2014. Therefore, the preferred shares of our oil and gas companies look like a defensive asset. ” Gold also looks like a promising investment. The end of the cycle of raising the interest rate by the Bank of Russia is not far off, inflation should decline, so long-term ruble deposits and investment in OFZs are a good choice, the expert is sure.
