On this occasion, the Parliament stand at SIEL is exhibiting, under the banner “Sixty years of parliamentary action”, a series of photographs highlighting the most significant stages in the evolution of parliamentary action in Morocco, through a collection of photos, videos and documents, from the creation of the National Consultative Council in 1956 to the present day.

The space dedicated to photos presents snapshots documenting important historical moments in the memory of the legislative institution, including the openings of the sessions of parliament chaired by His Majesty King Mohammed VI since his accession to the Throne of his glorious ancestors, as well as the opening by the late HM Hassan II of the first legislative session of the first elected Parliament in 1963, and the opening by the late HM Mohammed V of the work of the National Consultative Council in 1956.

The stand also exhibits photos tracing different stages of parliamentary action throughout the eleven legislatures, highlighting the diplomatic role of the legislative institution through hosting or participating in international conferences and parliamentary colloquiums.

In addition to photos illustrating the opening of Parliament to citizens, civil society, governance bodies and other partners, the stand also presents snapshots documenting the conclusion of cooperation agreements with parliaments and international organisations.

These also include historical manuscripts and parliamentary documents containing excerpts from Royal speeches at the opening of legislative sessions, Royal messages addressed to participants in national parliamentary conferences and forums, as well as excerpts from the Constitutions of the Kingdom testifying to the expansion of the prerogatives of Parliament from the Constitution of 1962 to that of 2011.

The stand also provides its visitors with documents and publications on the role and attributions of Parliament, its structures and the relationship between the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors, as well as the relationship between the two Houses and other constitutional and national institutions, in addition to a library with a wide range of publications from both Houses of Parliament.

In a statement to MAP, the Secretary General of the House of Representatives, Najib El Khadi, indicated that the third edition of the Parliament’s participation in the SIEL activities is distinguished by the presentation of the documentary, photographic and audiovisual fund exhibited by the Parliament on the occasion of its sixtieth anniversary.

The documents trace the evolution of parliamentary action in various fields from the first Parliament to the present day, added Mr. El Khadi, specifying that this participation is characterized, for the first time, by the organization of a simulation of oral question sessions in Parliament, in collaboration with the Department of National Education, by involving students from several educational establishments from different regions of the Kingdom.

Through its participation in SIEL, the Parliament aims in particular to enable visitors to the legislative institution’s stand to discover the Parliament’s significant documentary collection, its publications, as well as various communication media concerning the attributions, functions and structure of the two Chambers.
