The Most Unusual Small Animals Found in Swedish Homes: A Surprising List

by time news

Are you thinking about getting yourself a new family friend? The most common pets in Sweden can probably be considered to be cats and dogs. However, there are considerably more unusual pets in our elongated country and several of them also make it onto the list of the most unusual small animals found in Swedish households.

In a survey carried out by the insurance company Agria, a list of pets that are significantly more unusual than cats, dogs, or horses is presented. “And they stand out compared to the usual small animals,” said Patrik Olsson at Agria.

“Our most common small animals are rabbits and guinea pigs, but there are so many other types of animals to live with for those who want to choose a different companion at home,” Olsson added.

The list of unusual small pets in Swedish homes includes:

1. Egyptian long-eared hedgehog
2. Hanging pig
3. Iguana
4. Tenrec
5. Skink
6. Mouse
7. Varan
8. Chameleon
9. Flying marsupial squirrel
10. African pygmy hedgehog

The winner, then, is the Egyptian long-eared hedgehog, which climbs up one position on the list compared to the last time the insurance company detailed the rankings of the most unusual small pets, which was in 2018.

“In connection with the long-eared hedgehog taking first place, this also means that the hammock pig falls one place,” explained Olsson.

So, if you’re looking for a unique and unusual small pet to join your family, consider venturing beyond the realm of cats and dogs. With options like the Egyptian long-eared hedgehog and hanging pig, Swedish households are showcasing their love for these extraordinary companions.
