Two recommendations on spelling and one in which we talk about the word “marathon” have been the most read this November on our website.
1. vocatives, with commas
Vocatives are those words or groups of words that are used to address a person or thing. In the most read recommendation of November, we explained that, according to spelling rules, these terms are written between commas. Thus, in phrases like “Hello, friends of the FundéuRAE!” or “Thank you, dear readers, for visiting us”, the vocatives friends of the FundéuRAE y Dear readers They have a comma in front and, if the statement continues, another one after it.

2. the marathon y marathonsuitable forms
Some nouns can be used in Spanish as masculine and feminine. An example is marathon; It began to be used in the masculine (the marathon), but later its use as feminine was extended (marathon). Furthermore, in the recommendation that we dedicate to you, we remember that, if it is accompanied by an adjective, it must agree with the determiner: the half marathon, the half marathon.

3. verbs with added pronoun, stress
Words that have been formed by a verb to which one or more pronouns are added at the end are stressed according to general rules. Thus, in the third recommendation that has been read the most among those published in November, we remember that it is appropriate not to write an accent in cases such as delealthough the verbal form is stressed without the pronoun (god), or vice versa (understand itbut in shop).
