The mountain race ends in tragedy: athlete dies at 35 – Sport

AOSTA. A 35-year-old athlete from the Czech Republic died last night from injuries sustained in a fall while competing in the 145-kilometer Tds (“Sur les Traces des Ducs de Savoie”) mountain running race. 9,100 meters in altitude, which connects the Aosta Valley to Savoy.

The organizers announced it.

The accident occurred shortly after midnight during the descent from Passeur de Pralognan, in Haute-Savoie (France).

A rescue team intervened on the spot and the athlete, in cardiac arrest, was transported to the hospital by helicopter. Unfortunately, the doctors failed to save his life.

The competition, which is part of the Mont Blanc Ultra Trail circuit (UTMB), has been suspended.
