Opposition leader and Jatiya Party Chairman Gholam Mohammad Quader expressed his support for the students’ movement to cancel the quota system and said that the quota system in jobs is against the constitution. He made this comment while talking to media persons on Sunday (July 7) afternoon.

Jatiya Party Chairman said, the anti-quota movement is a very logical movement. Not all people in society like discrimination. A discriminatory society cannot be called a fair society. Bengalis were discriminated against since the British period. They joined the Pakistan movement to escape discrimination. Later Pakistanis also discriminated against Bengalis. So first started the freedom movement and later freedom struggle. Through the Great Liberation War we gained an independent state only to escape discrimination. The dream was that we would have a country, a country without discrimination. Where there will be no torture. The constitution emphasizes against discrimination. Quota system in employment is against the constitution.

The opposition leader said that the Pakistanis did not want to make Bengali the state language to create discrimination. They wanted to create discrimination through language. The intention was that the Bengalis should be backward in all aspects. Our national language movement is against this conspiracy of discrimination. Our brothers gave their lives in the national language movement on February 21, 1952. Our freedom struggle was to build a non-discrimination and justice-based society. In such a situation, the quota system in employment creates a conflicting situation. The constitution is supposed to give some people a chance to advance because of equality. Those who are behind may move forward. The constitution also says how much assistance will be given to the backward.

He opined that it is not in accordance with the constitution to give quota system to the children of freedom fighters or their heirs.

Criticizing the government over the list of freedom fighters, Golam Mohammad Quader said that the list of freedom fighters that was initially listed has now been increased by 3 to 4 times. There are many controversies about it. Some were 2 to 3 years old during the liberation war, some were never born, they were also enlisted as freedom fighters. Many have doubts about the contribution of the Liberation War. Many people fought the liberation war, but they could not be enlisted due to various reasons. Many gave their lives in the liberation war, their children also gave their lives, but due to education and political awareness, they could not be enlisted.

He said, freedom fighters can be given one-time benefits, but not at the expense or discrimination of others. Where one is fit to get a job, denying it to someone else is against the spirit of the freedom struggle. The British tortured us by divide and rule. It was the soldiers and administrators of our country who tortured us on behalf of the British. The kings and maharajas of our country tortured the common people for the British. Now a ruling class is created. They are trying to recruit unfit people to create opportunistic groups. Enriching the misfits. They should be loyal to the government. Because, the misfits know, not fit for this job or honor. So will be loyal to the government. Wants to keep the quota system going by using the spirit of the liberation war to protect individual or group interests. Their aim is to create a strong loyal force. The ruling group wants to create a stick force by depriving the people of the whole country. So the anti-quota movement is very logical. We don’t want to talk about the subject at hand, but I said philosophy. In common people’s perception, creating Lathial Bahini by empowering unfit people is an attempt to perpetrate atrocities like the British and Pakistanis. Like the British and Pakistanis, the current government has introduced divide and rule.

The opposition leader feels that it is unfair to deprive anyone of their rights through the quota system. No one has the right to deprive a person who has appeared first in the examination. Those who are deprived, their parents are also deprived. They will also be deprived of their inheritance in this manner.
