After the attack in Hawara: Prime Minister, Yair Lapidtweeted this evening (Saturday) on his Twitter account and wrote that he backs the police officer who eliminated the terrorist. Lapid wrote that he “absolutely backs the company commander who identified the incident, initiated and neutralized the terrorist and thereby saved lives.”

The Prime Minister also referred to the statement of the UN envoy for the Middle East, Tor Vansland, who condemned the killing of the terrorist, and wrote that “any attempt to distort reality and tell a false story in the world is simply a disgrace. I wish a speedy recovery to the soldier who was injured in the incident. Our security forces will continue to act resolutely against terrorism wherever it raises its head.”

Earlier, Corporal H., the commander of the company that neutralized the terrorist last night, commented on the incident, and described the chain of events. First, he said that during a routine trip in which the company drove up Route 60, he spotted a stuck vehicle, “I ask the driver to move forward and cling to the vehicle and receive an answer that the car gets stuck and they immediately move.”

According to him, at that time the terrorist came towards the jeep, “we didn’t see the knife but he put his hand inside the vehicle and stabbed the driver”. At this point, according to him, the driver shouted that he was hit and continued driving, “I called him to stop and he braked. I started running towards the terrorist and reported a stabbing attack near the gas station.”

“While I was running after the terrorist, I encountered another incident about 40 meters away in which a man was lying on the floor with blood, I called for help and continued my mission to chase the terrorist who stabbed my driver,” he noted.

At this point, according to him, the terrorist jumped towards him, “I punched him in the face and I understand that I am in another incident. I managed to turn him around, and I saw two people trying to help him snatch the weapon from me. I realized that if I don’t take control of the incident, the weapon will help them carry out an attack with many casualties on the Hvara route.”

“While I pull out my gun and fire three shots at the terrorist, I eliminate him and then I recognize that my medic is rescuing the driver who was bleeding profusely from his head,” he shared.

The paramedic who saved the driver’s life said: “Everything happened in seconds. The driver shouted ‘stab me, stab me’, and I recognized that he was bleeding massively. At first I blacked out, then I came to my senses and started treating him, bandaged him and gave him treatment until we cleared him.”

Maj. Gen. Chief Amir Cohen also commented on the events: “A few seconds after the event, I spoke with the company commander, and I understood the magnitude of the event and the enormous danger it posed. If the kidnapping of the weapons from the MP had been successful, we would have entered a bloody settlement with many casualties from the security forces.”

“The MP’s quick reaction and determination while pulling out his personal gun stopped the incident, and he managed the incident impeccably. We believe that the others who were around did not try to grab his weapon in the end but did not help him. The medic also showed resourcefulness and is also a partner in the success of the mission,” he noted.

According to him, the terrorist has a security history and a criminal past, “the MP is an officer with a lot of operational experience who served in special units of the Mageb, and this is what led to accuracy in the mission and a quick response while creating a correct narrative”

The MGB commander also referred to the attack at the Shuafat checkpoint in which the female fighter Noa Lazar Zar fell, “We know that the handling and outcome of the incident was not good, so what happened here is the professional process of learning and drawing lessons, and this is exactly what I expect from my fighters.”
