The MSP executes the “Development of the Strategy for the Comprehensive Approach to the Socioeconomic Phenomenon of Drugs and Strengthening of Mental Health”, with an execution scheduled for the period 2023-2025; The central objective of this project is to improve access, coverage and quality of mental health services in the National Health System, as well as to contribute to the reduction of demand in the context of drugs.
One of the key components of this project involves conducting a survey on the “Use and Consumption of Drugs and Mental Health Problems in the General Population.” The results of this survey will be essential for making informed decisions in multiple aspects, from the evaluation of public policies to the updating of prevention and protection strategies. In addition, the data obtained is expected to help update crucial indicators such as prevalence, incidence, risk perception, and other factors related to drug use and mental health in the general population, as well as in specific groups.
This survey will include an epidemiological investigation of mental health, an important step since it will be the first time that this topic is investigated in the Ecuadorian population. Given the growing relevance of mental disorders and their impact on public health, this research will provide crucial information for the design of prevention and treatment strategies. In addition, research will be carried out on the community approach to mental health and the preferences of users of mental health services, with the aim of improving the integration and effectiveness of medical care.
